Qi 2.2 increases wireless charging performance to 25W, with GRL leading the global rollout through the only approved test solution.
Santa Clara, California – [June 2025] – GRL Platform Solutions, a global leader in test automation solutions for digital connectivity, charging technologies, has received official approval from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) Quality Review Board (QRB) for its GRL-C3-MPP test solution. This makes GRL the first and only provider with a WPC-approved test platform for Qi 2.2 wireless charging certification.
This milestone marks a significant step forward in the global rollout of the Qi 2.2 wireless charging standard. With GRL’s certified solution, WPC Authorized Test Labs (ATLs) can now initiate Qi 2.2 certification testing using GRL Platform Solutions transmitter and receiver test tools—ensuring product launches proceed on schedule.
“With our Qi 2.2 tool approval, GRL Platform Solutions' complete portfolio of Qi test solutions is now ready to support WPC members throughout the product lifecycle,” said Vamshi Kandalla, CEO at GRL Platform Solutions. “From the GRL-C3-MP-TPR and GRL-C3-TPT for transmitter and receiver testing, to the GRL-WP-TPR-C3 for development and pre-certification testing, our platform enables the industry to meet evolving wireless charging demands with precision and confidence.
Advancing Wireless Charging: Qi 2.2
The Qi 2.2 specification represents the latest evolution of the Qi wireless charging standard, increasing maximum power delivery from 15W to 25W—narrowing the performance gap with wired charging. It also introduces magnetic alignment for optimal coil positioning, improving efficiency and user experience while maintaining full backward compatibility with earlier Qi versions.
Leading OEMs, semiconductor companies, automotive Tier 1 suppliers, and wireless power innovators are already adopting the solution to accelerate their Qi 2.2 product certifications.
“GRL Platform Solutions is proud to lead the Qi 2.2 certification effort with the industry’s first approved test solution,” said Rajaraman Venkatachalam, Executive Vice President of Protocol and Power Solutions at GRL Platform Solutions. “We support every phase of product development—from silicon validation to system-level testing and final certification—with global coverage in North America, Asia, and Europe. We are also expanding presence in key certification markets including China, Taiwan, Japan, and the United States.”
“The WPC is pleased to release Qi 2.2 certification with GRL Platform Solutions' test solution,” said Paul Struhsaker, Executive Director of the Wireless Power Consortium. “This milestone enables WPC members to bring next-generation 25W wireless charging to market through a proven, certified testing path.”
