GRL Platform Solutions Launches Qi DevStudio, an Integrated Development, Debug, and Validation Platform for Qi Power Transmitters

A cost-effective development and debug platform combining a non-intrusive Qi Sniffer, programmable reference power receiver, and synthetic FOD testing, to help teams find and fix issues before compliance testing.

GRL Platform Solutions, a global leader in test solutions for connectivity, is pleased to announce the launch of the Qi Development, Debug and Validation Platform (Qi DevStudio), a comprehensive development, debug, and validation platform designed for Qi Power Transmitter (PTx) development teams. By combining three test solutions into a single hardware platform and software application, the Qi DevStudio enables engineers to analyze, validate, debug, and optimize wireless power systems throughout the product development lifecycle. The platform supports Qi v2.3.1 and earlier specifications, as well as the BPP, EPP, MPP15, and MPP25 power profiles.

Qi DevStudio complements GRL Platform Solutions' Qi2 Wireless Charging Transmitter Tester (GRL-C3-MP-TPR) and Qi2 Wireless Charging Receiver Tester (GRL-C3-TPT) by helping teams debug and optimize designs earlier in development, so they arrive at formal certification better prepared.

As wireless charging continues to expand across smartphones, wearables, and other consumer devices, transmitter developers face growing complexity in protocol behavior, power profile support, interoperability, and foreign object detection (FOD). The Qi DevStudio addresses these challenges with a unified environment that replaces fragmented tools, giving teams a clearer view into how their designs behave under normal and fault conditions.

The Qi Sniffer captures and decodes all Qi communication packets, including ASK and FSK communication, using an ultra-thin, low-loss probe placed between the charger (PTx) and the mobile phone (PRx). Because the probe operates non-intrusively, engineers can perform complete packet analysis, protocol debugging, and interoperability investigation without impacting charging performance. Real-time packet decoding with detailed protocol insights, along with Received Power (RP) and power-transfer visualization, helps teams quickly identify the root cause of charging issues.

The Exerciser / PRx Emulator operates as a fully controllable Reference Power Receiver (TPR) for exercising and validating Qi chargers. Engineers can configure ASK modulation depths, dynamic load profiles, programmable packet sequences, and custom packet payloads, and can use protocol fault injection to verify transmitter operation across BPP, EPP, and MPP profiles under both normal and fault conditions.

The Synthetic FO capability enables advanced FOD validation using a synthetic foreign object with programmable power loss instead of physical foreign objects. This approach provides repeatable, controlled, and safe foreign-object emulation, simplifying FOD characterization, debugging, and compliance validation.

"Wireless charging designs are becoming more capable and more complex, and development teams need visibility and control at every stage of the process," said Evan Sun, President & CEO of GRL Platform Solutions. "The Qi DevStudio reflects our commitment to giving engineers a purpose-built, integrated platform that brings protocol analysis, receiver emulation, and FOD validation together, so they can move from design to certification with greater confidence and efficiency."

"The Qi DevStudio was developed to remove the friction of juggling multiple tools when debugging a Qi transmitter," said Rajaraman Venkatachalam, Chief Product Officer of GRL Platform Solutions. "By combining non-intrusive packet capture, a fully programmable receiver emulator, and repeatable synthetic foreign object testing in a single platform, we are helping engineers find issues earlier, characterize their designs more accurately, and improve the quality and reliability of their products."

The Qi DevStudio also includes dual temperature monitoring with two independent temperature sensors for thermal validation, FOD characterization, and real-time system monitoring. Test results can be exported in Excel, PDF, HTML, and JSON formats, and C# and Python APIs support automated testing workflows. Together, these capabilities give development teams a complete environment for Qi protocol analysis, transmitter validation, interoperability testing, and pre-certification debugging.
